Cotabato City, September 19, 2024 – In response to a 64.61% surge in dengue cases across the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), the Ministry of Health (MOH) spearheaded a “Clean-Up Drive” today at its office premises. The activity is part of the intensified 4S Strategy to combat the alarming rise in dengue infections, which have reached 8,568 cases, including 121 confirmed cases and 47 deaths as of September 7, 2024.
The Clean-Up Drive, focusing on the “Search and Destroy” aspect of the 4S strategy, aims to eliminate mosquito breeding sites, maintain cleanliness, and prevent mosquito-borne diseases within the MOH offices and serve as a model for other ministries in the region.
This initiative emphasizes the importance of community participation in the fight against dengue. The 4S Strategy, which includes Search and Destroy, Seek Early Consultation, Self-protection, and Support fogging during outbreaks, is crucial in curbing the spread of the disease.
The Ministry urges all residents to actively participate in clean-up efforts in their own communities and to seek early medical consultation if they experience any symptoms of dengue.
