COTABATO CITY – The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Minister of Health, Dr. Kadil M. Sinolinding Jr., assures the public that there are no confirmed cases of Monkeypox (Mpox) in the region as of today.

In response to circulating rumors about the presence of Mpox in the Bangsamoro Region, Minister Sinolinding clarified that while reports are being investigated by health experts, no case has been officially verified. The Minister called for calm and urged the public to rely only on official government sources for information.

What Is Monkeypox?

Minister Sinolinding outlined key information about Monkeypox, a viral illness that can cause symptoms such as:

Rashes or blisters on the face, hands, feet, body, genitals, or inside the mouth, lasting 2–4 weeks.

Fever, headache, muscle aches, back pain, swollen lymph nodes, fatigue, and sore throat.

Monkeypox spreads primarily through direct contact with infected individuals or contaminated objects.

Preventive Measures

To safeguard against the virus, the Ministry of Health (MOH) recommends the following:

1. Practice Proper Hygiene:

• Wash hands frequently and thoroughly.

• Use hand sanitizer when necessary.

2. Avoid Direct Contact:

• Refrain from close interaction with individuals showing symptoms such as rashes or fever.

3. Wear Protective Gear:

• When needed, use masks and gloves, especially when caring for symptomatic individuals.

4. Dispose of Contaminated Items Properly:

• Safely handle and clean items used by infected individuals, such as clothing or bedding.

5. Avoid Crowds and Close Contact:

• Limit activities that involve skin-to-skin interaction with others.

6. Share Accurate Information:

• Disseminate verified health advice and avoid spreading misinformation.
